Rain Dog: Poetry Submission Guidelines

  • Rain Dog welcomes contributions of original poetry by anyone, whether they have been published before or not. We are however, particular keen to receive submissions from women.
  • We welcome submissions of up to 5 poems (short sequences welcome) and poems may be of any length. If you send more than 5 poems we'll only read the first 5 so please don't send us more.
  • We strongly advise you to read a copy of the magazine and think about whether your poem would fit in with the general style.
  • Submissions are equally welcome by post to:

  •
PO Box 68, Manchester, M19 2XD

or by email to:  rd_poetry@yahoo.com      (but see guidelines below)

  • Any work submitted must be the original work of the author and not be previously published or accepted for publication elsewhere.
  • If you send your submission by post you must enclose an SAE with enough stamps on it or we probably won't reply.
  • Theme, subject and style are left up to the individual writer.
  • Payment cannot be made for poems but you will receive a free copy of the issue in which your poem appears.

Emails
  • An email submission is just like any other submission to us, except it arrives electronically. So as with postal submissions you must also include a covering note including your name and postal address. We don't accept anonymous submissions and just an email address won't do.
  • Please enclose your poems within the text of the message (if you possibly can) - we don't like attachments they make us nervous.
  • Please note we will only read 5 of your poems at any one time and this applies as much to email submissions as it does to postal ones.

Though not essential, it would greatly improve your chances of publication if your poems were:
  • type-written on A4 sized paper
  • printed on only one side of the page
  • presented with your name and address on each sheet
  • placed in an envelope which is big enough for them and accompanied by an SAE also big enough.
  • included in the text of an email. Or, if you really must attach them - do so as a single attachment (ie all the poems in one file).
  • Finally, it would be helpful if you could let us know where you heard about Rain Dog.
