Why we are here

The thrill of the ice-plant and Oil Berth Only.
The stoic optimism of Golden Harvest and New Dawn.
The blue orange interweave of rigging and cables
of a fleet impossibly moored, and everywhere milk cartons
and clear bottles on the lip of the thirsty sea.

Larger shapes: gantries framing the concrete breakwater
thick as a bunker and smoky-brick warehouses guilty
with gibbets and trapdoors, a composition complex
enough to show us how simple our lives should be
and the reason why everything we love has brought us here.
